Arctostaphylos pungens Pointleaf manzanita

Erect, large round evergreen shrub reaching from 3 to 10 ft. in height at maturity. Occurs in chaparral and woodlands between 3,000 and 8,000 ft. elevation on dry rocky slopes and mesas, typically on gravelly sandy loam soils. Provides valuable food and cover for wildlife and livestock. The red berry is relished by wildlife and is a preferred browse for domestic goats.
