Formerly known as Cercidium microphyllum. Small evergreen tree up to 30 ft. tall. Adapted to medium to coarse soils with high water tables in washes, plains, and canyons from sea level to 4,000 ft. elevation. Covered with persistent yellow flowers in early spring. Foliage is of little forage value but its seed is sought by birds and small mammals; also provides good cover.
