Formerly known as Cercidium microphyllum. Small evergreen tree up to 25 ft. tall adapted to well drained rocky plains and foothills 500 to 3,500 ft. elevation. Occurs on drier sites than P. florida. Covered with persistent yellow flowers in mid-spring. Negligible forage value but its seed is eaten by birds and small mammals; also provides good cover.
